Several years ago, we petitioned our HOA's Board of Directors to obtain permission to install limited types of ham antennas. After a year of discussion, we were granted rights to install wire, and vertical antennas (not to exceed 5' above peak of roof). We are one of the largest HOA's (10,000 homes) in the USA to be allowed to install & use Ham antennas
One of the most popular antennas for our club members is the Scorpion screwdriver antenna. Initially designed for mobile operation, the antenna has become an ideal antenna for HF use. Earning DXCC is easy with this antenna. The Scorpion is manufactured here in Phoenix
Bob Spencer, W6HMC a long-term member of the Arizona Grand Hams left us for the big hamshack in the sky on December 6, 2024. Bob served his country in the U.S. Navy for many years as a Navy Chief.
We host two weekly nets:
VHF/UHF Mondays 10:00 AM 145.040
HF Net: Wednesdays 7:00 PM 7.141 MHz
During the winter months when our snowbirds are in town, we try to operate a monthly club meeting via Zoom which may include a technical presentation. Coming up soon is a presentation on having more fun with FT8
This website is operated in memory of Mark Heroux, N1MAE, our Vice President who is now operating his big ham shack in the sky. He was instrumental in helping form our club and in obtaining HOA antenna privilege's. Mark endured a long battle with MS and in spite of that was a Net host for our club and the TBARC club in Phoenix
If you're a Ham considering moving down to Arizona from the snowy north, consider buying a home in "The Grand", one of the largest HOA's in the country that is "Ham Friendly". We are allowed two antennas and most of our members have one HF and one VHF/UHF antenna. Propagation is better here than in the North and working DXCC is easy. This webmaster has worked 220 countries since moving to The Grand
